What IS SEO?

“What is SEO” isn’t the whole question and here’s why. SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation, is the name given to planned activity that aims to improve a site’s ranking in online search engines. Logically, the higher your website ranks on a search engine (such as Google), the greater the chance that potential customers will click on to your site.

Now if your website has been optimised – so it’s easy to navigate and has great content – then ultimately by increasing that traffic to your website, you should also expand your engagement with your target market. This should then have the flow on effect of increasing both your brand recognition and sales.

Therefore the whole question becomes “What is SEO and why does my business need it?” and the answer is that SEO is the name given to the strategy, techniques and tactics used to drive quality customers to your site and hopefully keep them there!

  • There are so many companies claiming to be ‘experts’ how is Agile SEO different from the rest?

Unfortunately, there are many online companies who claim to be experts but really only offer ‘one size fits all’ marketing solutions. Now we’re not saying those solutions won’t work (at least in the short term) but much of their work is ‘black-hat’ meaning that you stand a good chance of having your site ignored by search engines such as google – not exactly the result you were looking for.

Be wary of anyone who gives you a set price before they find out what your business needs. Be especially wary of anyone who promises instant results! SEO is a long term strategy because it’s not just about increasing site traffic, it’s about increasing the quality of your site traffic and making sure you can convert it to sales.

Try asking some questions, it’s ok if the person you’re talking to doesn’t have the answers right away (you may be asking a content expert about website design, for example) but they should be able to get back to you with the information you enquired about in a reasonable time frame.

We promise that we will never offer you a ‘one size fits all’ solution, the options we present to you will be tailored to your business, because really, it’s all about you!

  • What’s the secret to getting good SEO results?

Industry knowledge, hard work and constant learning! There really are no shortcuts.

  • Does Agile SEO have a good relationship with search engines like Google?

No search engine company has an advantageous relationship with any SEO company. Let me say it again – no search engine has an advantageous relationship with ANY SEO company.

It’s important that you know this; there are many companies who will claim to have an ‘in’ with the search engines and it’s simply untrue. No search engine company wants to open itself up to allegations of unethical behaviour so they will always maintain a professional, ‘arms-distance’ working relationship with any and all SEO companies.

  • Will I have one person working with me?

We work as a team because we each have our own specialties, so to make sure you get the absolute best support in each aspect of your online strategy, you’ll generally have a main point of contact, but the work will be allocated to the team member most skilled at that particular technique or task.

  • How does it work exactly? Do I need to sign a contract?

It’s important to us that you understand what we’re doing and why, so once you’ve decided to work with us, we’ll make sure you are aware of our estimated time frames for achieving the results you’re looking for. Again, it’s important that you understand that SEO is not a ‘quick fix’ – it is, or should be, part of your long term marketing plan. If you’re looking for fast conversions there are plenty of ways that we can incorporate that into your strategy, but SEO is ideal for organic, sustainable growth, the kind that sees you and your business being around for a long time.

Should you decide that our services are not for you, you can terminate the service agreement. Realistically, it’s not in our best interest or yours to try to force the relationship and we’re confident enough in our service that we don’t think you’ll want to leave us anyway.

  • Do you offer set price packages? What is SEO going to cost me?

Yes, and no; we’ll never offer you a ‘one size fits all’ set price package, because each package is individually tailored to your particular business requirements, however, we do provide a fixed quote.

As we progress through your online strategy, you may request or we may suggest adjustments, if so, we’ll let you know if there are any additional fees. At that point, it’ll be up to you to decide if you’d like to change the strategy or stick with the original plan. Ultimately, our goal is to give you the best possible pricing for the best possible results from organic, white-hat online SEO activities.

  • Why are there recurring costs?

Every day millions of pages are being uploaded to the internet, which means every day ‘old’ content is being superseded by content that has been fully optimised for search engine crawlers. Because search engines are constantly updating their algorithms, the weight given the various things on your site will change regularly, so what was important at the time, may not be weighted so heavily by the search engines after an update.

This means that changes to content, keywords and links need to be added on an ongoing basis in order to maintain or improve your existing ranking and to keep the site fresh for your clients so they’ll want to keep coming back.

  • Why can’t I just use Automatic Link Building?

That’s what is known as a black hat practice and Google has put strict rules in place to identify and prevent sites that utilise it from benefiting in online rankings. They will penalise sites with unnatural links and the penalties can involve having your entire site blacklisted with Google, which is a sure-fire way to demolish any progress you’ve made in climbing the ranks.

  • What sort of time frame am I looking at for results?

Results vary greatly, for competitive keywords you can be looking at up to 6 months to reach the front page, less competitive keywords are generally quicker. It’s important to have realistic time frames in mind, so we’ll always set realistic goals with you. We’d much rather under-promise and over deliver than do it the other way around!
